DADA BENDER (2023)

for six percussionists and six loudspeakers

Comissioned by  Aiyun Huang and TaPIR Lab

DADA BENDER (2023) is inspired by Dadaism. The Dada movement adopted the term "anti-art," associated with Marcel Duchamp, to challenge accepted definitions of art.

The fixed media for DADA BENDER was created from noisy electronic sounds derived from raw data sonifications and improvisations with mixer feedback. Like raw data sonification, mixer feedback produces sound by misusing and bending technology.

These skronky sounds were chopped up, quantized, and arranged into the rhythms, gestures, and noises that were ultimately orchestrated for the six percussionists.
